Why New York’s small businesses suffer and why we don’t have jobs.

Has anyone been following the recent reports by TimesUnion.com about all the funding that has been handed out to Big Corporations in the past year?

$400 million was reported to be given for the new Nanoscience facility at University of Albany, supposedly not to the benefit of a coalition of IBM, GE, and other big companies that the Governor wants to invest here in NY for high tech manufacturing.  This investment was reported to bring NYers about 600 new jobs.

Over $5 billion has been given in the form of tax incentives and cash payments to GlobalFoundries for their Chip fabrication in Malta NY.  Just recently it has been reported that they want to exchange some of the tax incentives for more cash from the State of NY.  This is supposed to bring 1,600 jobs here to NY.

If we had taken the cash that we are handing out to these big corporations, which provides little to no economic relief to the local economy, and given it out in the form of grants to small businesses and entrepreneurs that need seed capital desperately to form new businesses, we could have potentially created statewide tens of thousands of jobs that we will never see.  $5,400,000,000 split up into $100,000 grants/loans to small businesses would have provided 54,000 opportunities for growth.  If they had stipulated as a condition for receiving this grant/loan that at least one job was created, that would have provide employment opportunities of 54,000 jobs.  This dwarfs the amount of jobs these big handouts would produce by over 50,000 jobs.

Putting political views aside for moment (don’t get me started on all the things that are wrong with King Andy,) I am going to play devil’s advocate.  The Small Business Adminstration say about of 80% of new small businesses fail in 5 years.  So say each of those grants would have gone to new startups, and say they all fall into the norm in performance.  That would have generated an immediate boom to the local economy for about 5 years.  This would also net 10,500 + new companies that would have kept employment running for at least 5 years, and would still be functioning in 5 years, providing ongoing employment.  That is still twice the positions created by all these handouts to Big Corps and would potentially spawn thousands of more jobs than the mandated 1 job per $100,000 grant.

Make no mistake, the reason NY is in the shape it is in is because of the current political system we have.  Our governor, a Democrat, has done more in the past two years to crush the 99% in our local economy than any of the past three governors.  There is no reason for cuts to services and the severe unemployment and underemployment that we are seeing now.  King Andy is not working for NYers, he is working for Big Corporations and the rich who have funded his campaign.  He is looking towards the 2016 Presidential Election, and he does not care how bad he has to crush New York to accomplish this.  If you disagree, please feel free to comment.

Yay! I can procreate!

Let me ask you all a question.  Does everyone feel it is a huge accomplishment to make babies?  Really?

Recently it was announced that Christina Applegate is having a child.  I have co-workers who are having children.  Why does the world feel it is newsworthy to belt out a newborn?  I don’t understand it.  I mean, when you think about it, its happened before.  And, it will happen again.  It’s probably happening right now somewhere in the world.  So why do I care?

And how am I supposed to feel about it?  Why should I care?  Should I  be happy one of America’s Favorite Bombshells has become a MILF?  Yeah, that’s enticing.  That will make her way more bankable in the movie industry (NOT!)

Should I be glad that someone will to have to spend another $2 Million over the next 21 years trying to care for another dependency?  I guess it is good thing for them that they have another tax deduction.  Should I be happy about the fact that, because now they have another bouncing baby whatever, that I will have to take up more of their slack at work because “oh my kid is sick, I have to stay home with them.”  “My child has to go to the dentist/doctor/eye doctor/school/baseball practice/football game/dancing lessons/Taekwondo lessons/piano lessons/proctologist/you name it, so I will be late/not in today.”  Yeah, let me pick up that slack for you, so you can raise another resource burning, life draining burden on society.

So please, tell me what is wrong with me?  Why is it that I could care less about your new child?

I probably should have prefaced this article with the fact I do not, nor do I want, children.  So I guess I have never had the “joy” of caring and loving another little person I created.  But for every one person I have heard boast about how special/smart/fast/cute their little darlings are, I have heard twenty parents expressing their disappointment/regret/dread of their children.  Why is it that so many hate their own offspring?

I think its poor planning, or a lack there of.  How many times have you actually heard someone was actually trying to have children? Not that often.  Usually, you hear (out of earshot of the little darlings) that the condom broke, or they were really drunk when it happened.  It was an accident.  It was a “suprise.” Most parents do not prepare to be parents, so they don’t have the resources they need to properly supervise, child rear, and take care of their children.

So in conclusion of this rant, I would like say to parents out there, please do not expect the barren people to care or pick up your slack in any aspect of your lives.  If you are proud of what your kid does or did, that’s great.  But we do not want to hear you complain about your kids, or berate what they may have done.  We could really care less about your financial difficulties because you have mouths to feed; you shouldn’t have created them if you can’t feed them.  We do not care that you have to have to pay for daycare so you can work; you should stay home and take care of them yourself.  Can’t afford to do that?  Then put the kid up for adoption, so someone who can’t have children, but are mentally and financially prepared can have a child.  Obviously you are not, and will continue to be a drain on society until you do.

State Working

The last bastion of stability in our workforce, the State Worker toils in obscurity, hoping one day to retire.  There are many thoughts about the work ethic of state workers; some of them are that they are all lazy, do-nothing positions, where the privileged go to get paid for doing little.  Others see state employment as a higher calling, where it is noble to support the mission of the Agency or Authority they enlist.  Any way you may think about State work, this is the place to air it out.  What do you think of NYS workers?

Sup New York!!! Welcome to the forum you have all been waiting for….

New Yorkers’ Rant was a twinkle in my eye at about 3AM, ironically during a power outage (What?  Really?).  I frequent a few blogs in the Capital District area, and I have seen some good and some bad moderating.  Make no mistake, New Yorkers’ Rant will take the Will of the People into account, and we will let you voice your opinion.  No matter how poorly or how well backed by statistical or empirical data, any New Yorkers’ Rant will be allowed to see the light of day.

Is this another liberal post-modern attempt at Political Correctness?  Hell, No!  This Blog will allow everyone to be themselves, and express their beliefs in any manner they see fit.  The only rule is that no direct attacks on an individual Blogger will be tolerated.  If you want say that “Polly69ner is a flamer”  because you didn’t like what they said, that will be flagged and eliminated, and you may even get barred from the Blog.  However, If you want to say “I don’t like them queers…” and stand behind your idea of your obvious homophobic tendencies (possibly because you are just a little too curious), then fire away, and be prepared to verbally defend your stand with any dreamed up statistics you can pull out of your round, firm buttocks.

BTW, did you know that 70% of all statistics quoted on 80% of all the Blogs currently written on WordPress servers are created within five minutes of the writer’s idea for their new post?  THINK ABOUT IT, it will make sense in a minute.
